Florida Municipal Law

 

The attorneys of Davis & Ashton, P.A. currently serve as general counsel for six municipalities in Palm Beach County.  We also serve as general counsel for the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc., the Florida Green Finance Authority, and the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council. We provide our clients with a full range of legal services, covering all facets of local government operations, ethics for government officials, land use and zoning, code compliance, contract and procurement law, basic employment law, public records law, legislative advocacy, preparation of ordinances and resolutions, and, when required, litigation.  We also serve as the code enforcement special magistrate for the Cities of West Palm Beach and Pahokee and the Towns of Loxahatchee Groves and Ocean Ridge, and as the zoning relief magistrate for Martin County and the Towns of Juno Beach and Lake Park.

The attorneys of Davis & Ashton, P.A. also serve as special counsel to a number of both local governments and private clients. We specialize in code compliance cases, as well as regulatory issues surrounding the use of public rights of way.  We also have experience handling environmental regulatory matters.

The attorneys of Davis & Ashton, P.A. are regular speakers and presenters at the local and state level for the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc., the Florida League of Cities, Inc., the Florida Municipal Attorney’s Association, and other organizations.  We serve on legislative policy committees through the Florida League of Cities, Inc., and we write Amicus Curiae briefs on behalf of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc. on various issues of general municipal importance.

Our experience with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine Law, public records law, and ethics laws for elected and appointed officials is extensive. Our attorneys have served on the Palm Beach County Commission on Ethics and on the Office of Inspector General ordinance drafting committees, and served as expert witnesses in cases involving Sunshine Law issues.  We regularly participate in ethics training for local elected officials, both for those that are our clients and for those that are not.

Our land use experience is equally extensive. We have written comprehensive plan and zoning code regulations for many of our clients. We are knowledgeable with regard to sign codes, noise codes, and use regulations for vacation rentals and medical marijuana facilities, to name a few.  We are experienced in handling all varieties of development applications from minor home revisions, to construction of new estate mansions, to commercial shopping centers and large planned communities.  We are experienced with land use variance requests as well as conditional use permit applications.  We have also successfully defended these regulations and proceedings at all levels of state and federal court.
